Your Second Day
After making it through the first evening successfully, your priorities will shift from basic survival to improving the confines in which you live. Expanding your home and making it safer are the primary tasks of the day, as well as rustling up a few bits of food to ensure you stay healthy for the challenges ahead. If you made it through the first day, the second day should prove to be much less stressful and a little more fun. Also, you won’t have to spend your second night in a hole, so that’s always a plus.
Home Improvement
It’s time to turn that dank, smelly dirt hole you call a home into a bona fide stone house, complete with a door, windows and enough room to get some work done while the Creepers are out doing their dirty business. It’s nowhere near the final version of the majestic mansion you’ll eventually own, but it will certainly be more comfortable than the shelter in which you spent your first evening.
Mine, Mine, Mine
There’s a reason this game is named Minecraft. Expect to spend most of the time you don’t spend fighting or crafting in dark, frightening mines gathering as much material as you can. For now, your primary focus should be gathering cobblestone. Later you’ll be able to find sturdier and more valuable materials, but cobblestone is more than enough to get your home in proper working order.
Work your way through the caverns of the deep until you have collected at least 80 cobblestone blocks. Once you have the right amount in your inventory, it’s time to get that home of yours upgraded.
Clear the Foundation
Before you get started on your house, you’ll want to create a flat foundation on which it can sit. Clear a large space near your original spawn point by punching or picking out all of the extra blocks. It’s also advisable to replace any grass on your build site with dirt, so sheep and cows don’t accidentally spawn in your home. With your cobblestone in tow and your foundation cleared and ready, it’s time to get to building.
The Build, Take Two
Start your build by creating a simple stone perimeter. Stack cobblestone blocks three high, and make the entire thing about five blocks by four blocks. Once you’ve built the basic outline, fill in the ceiling with cobblestone to keep enemies from cascading down upon you.
Leave a 1×2 slot in your house so you can insert a door. Remember to place the door from the outside.
